Financial and Commercial Manager

A fast-growing strawberry farm in the Carletonville area would like to employ a Financial and Commercial Manager.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records (including income, expenses, inventory, and asset movement)

  • Record all daily transactions using accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics)

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in preparing annual and monthly budgets

  • Provide financial forecasts to support operational planning

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Adhere to AP processes and internal controls

  • Ensure timely and accurate capture of all liabilities

  • Maintain good relationships with suppliers and address any payment-related queries

  • Uploading of AP payments onto the bank application

  • Track outstanding balances and follow up with clients or vendors when needed

Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Generate and manage sales orders, delivery notes, and invoices for farm produce and services provided to customers.

  • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing in accordance with delivery schedules and agreed pricing.

  • Monitor customer accounts and follow up on outstanding balances to ensure timely collections

Payroll

  • Receive payroll uploads from the HR department.

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of payroll-related data (e.g., hours worked, leave taken, deductions).

  • Reconcile payroll costs to the general ledger.

  • Support provision entries for payroll liabilities at month-end and year-end

Tax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare and submit required tax filings (VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, etc.).

  • Maintain compliance with financial and agricultural regulations.

Inventory & Asset Management

  • Monitor and record farm inventory and equipment

  • Assist with asset tracking and periodic stock takes

Financial Reporting

  • Generate financial statements and internal reports.

  • Analyse farm performance and suggest improvements.

Liaising with External Parties

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory bodies

  • Support audit preparation and funding applications if applicable.

Support to Management

  • Provide financial insights to support key decisions.

  • Assist in cost-saving strategies

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting or similar qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Registration as a Chartered Accountant (CA) will be an advantage

  • Proven work experience as an Accountant (minimum 3 years)

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Microsoft Dynamics or similar

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Background or experience in the agricultural industry compulsory
