Quality Controller (Food Processing)
A fast-growing strawberry farm in the Carletonville area would like to employ a Financial and Commercial Manager.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Controller is responsible for ensuring that all food products meet safety, quality, and legal standards throughout the production process. The role involves the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of quality management systems, with a strong emphasis on HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and compliance with relevant national and international food legislation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Control & Assurance
Monitor all stages of food processing to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards
Conduct regular inspections and audits of raw materials, production processes, and final products
Investigate and resolve quality-related complaints and non-conformities
HACCP Implementation
Develop, implement, and maintain HACCP plans
Identify critical control points (CCPs) in the production process and monitor them regularly
Train staff on HACCP principles and food safety protocols
Conduct hazard analysis and implement preventive measures to reduce food safety risks
Food Legislation & Compliance
Ensure compliance with local and international food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, EFSA, FSA, FSANZ, etc.)
Keep up to date with changes in food legislation and standards (e.g., ISO 22000, BRCGS, GLOBAL GAP, SQF)
Liaise with regulatory bodies and participate in inspections or certification audits
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of quality checks, audits, training, and incidents
Prepare quality reports and statistical data for management review
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) based on findings
Team Management & Training
Supervise quality control staff and ensure continuous development through training
Foster a culture of quality and food safety across all departments
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Degree or diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field
Certification in HACCP (minimum Level 3; Level 4 preferred)
Knowledge of national and international food safety legislation and standards
Experience with quality management systems (QMS) such as ISO 9001, ISO 22000, BRCGS, or FSSC 22000
Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in documentation and report writing
Good communication and leadership abilities
Typically based in a food processing facility
May involve work in cold or high-humidity environments
Requires wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE)
